With evocative lyrical language placed front and center stage, Matthew Valentyne’s brand of Australian Folk delves deep into the paradoxes of the human condition, with heartfelt anecdotes that captivate audiences.
As a singer-songwriter and guitarist, he cut his teeth playing almost every genre under the sun growing up in Sydney. From leading projects like the Sydney party band ‘Hurly Burly’, to playing guitar in the Hanoi jazz combo ‘The Beancounters’, Matthew’s career has been colourful and illustrious.
In 2022 Matthew’s instrumental song “Maria” was awarded first prize in the TS International Music Competition.
Today, he is honing in on his personal musical endeavours, working alongside talented producers including Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, Isha Erskine. Matthew has a slew of forthcoming material lined up for 2023, including a single ‘The Her’, which previously received praise from the judges of The Great American Song Contest, who touted it as having “splashes of brilliance”.
